Friday Nov 06, 2020
Friday Nov 06, 2020
Clients often ask me, ‘How can I avoid bingeing when the urge feels so incredibly strong?’ It can seem like a driving force that cannot be ignored and rationalised away. Like an itch that needs to be scratched. A desire that can only be satisfied fully through food alone. It completely takes over! You may find that conversations with others blur gently into the background; work becomes a mindless irritation and your surroundings become irrelevant. Nothing - nothing at all, feels as important, as the pursuit of food. If you relate to this, then do listen, to find out 5 common triggers for bingeing and how to stop them. I hope you enjoy.

Developing good self-awareness is key in changing this. In this episode, I share a personal experience of rejection and how historically, this would have derailed recovery progress, whereas today, it is a minor blip that is reframed and worked through. How to Support Someone with an Eating Disorder
Friday Oct 02, 2020
Friday Oct 02, 2020
How can family members, friends and loved ones support someone with an eating disorder? You might feel incredibly anxious, upset, alone, frustrated as a carer. You might not know what to do. You may feel despairing about change. In this episode, I talk about the New Maudsley Animal Model - created by the Maudsley Hospital Eating Disorder Service in London (for adult sufferers rather than children or young teens). This helps explain how communication can be effective and ineffective in supporting someone. I talk through the different animals and the skills ideally needed, when becoming a 'dolphin'. It takes time to learn these skills. If you're a carer, I suggest you seek out a local support group. It's also vital that you self-care and look after yourself. These resources below might also help.
